Joining The Voyager Academy

Selecting the right school for your child is one of the most crucial decisions you will ever have to make. The right decision will be profoundly rewarding for your child’s future.

The Voyager Academy seeks to provide parents with as much information as possible. All receive a brochure and are encouraged to visit us and view our website.

There is an Open Evening in October when parent and children are welcome to meet staff and students.

We have a year group system here at The Voyager Academy. Each student will have a Tutor, who will stay with them right through their secondary career. This relationship is vital as it allows the Tutor to get to know the student and establishes continuity of care. Each year group has a Progress Leader and a Student Support Officer who oversee all students in the year group and are key at monitoring and tracking progress, attitude to learning and attendance.

To ensure that children feel secure and happy in making the move to secondary school we provide:

  • Our Nurture Team who meet with students and teachers in their primary schools
    • Progress Leader Year 7
    • Student Support Officer Year 7
    • SEN/CP/EAL Leads
  • In Preparation Day – for Year 5 students in July get to experience what life is like at The Voyager Academy
  • In Rehearsal Day – for Year 6 students in July when they visit us, tour the academy, sample lessons and meet their new tutors
  • Parents Evening – in July where parents/carers of Year 6 students can peruse stalls with vital information about the academy and meet tutors
  • In Performance Day – the first day in September where new students have the academy to themselves and develop essential skills as well as allowing students to make new friends and meet many of their teachers
  • Parent Mail, our online communication tool where letters and other important information can be accessed and sent home and a place to buy our school uniform
  • A parents evening in the Autumn Term and another in Summer Term
  • Each new student will be allocated a Student Mentor who work with students to make them feel secure and to resolve any issues they may have.

Transition Co-ordinator and Progress Leader Years 7/8

In Preparation Day for Year 5 Students will take place on Tuesday 5th July 2016

During this day they will experience life at The Voyager Academy and be in preparation as a Voyager student. They will experience a taster of lessons, competitions, meeting staff and other students from local schools as well as taking a tour of the Academy with current student leaders. It will be an opportunity for them to mix with other students in their peer groups and enjoy activities in specialist subjects.

Students will need to wear their current school uniform, bringing their pencil case, a drink and packed lunch. The day will start at 9am when students will arrive at the front of the Academy and head into the Theatre. The day will end at 2:45pm when parents/carers are able to collect them from The Voyager Academy Theatre.

In Rehearsal Day for Year 6 Students will take place on Wednesday 6th July 2016

During this day they will experience life at The Voyager Academy and have tasters of lessons as well as competitions running throughout the day. They will use team work and get to know other students who will be in their tutor group, starting to make friendships ahead of September.

Students need to wear their current school uniform, bringing their PE kit, pencil case, a drink and packed lunch. If your child is in receipt of free school meals, they will be catered for here at the Academy. The day will start at 8:30am when students will arrive at the front of the Academy and head into the Theatre.

At 3pm Parents/Carers are invited to attend an assembly in the theatre which will celebrate the success of the students and showcase examples of their learning throughout the day. Following which our Parents’ Evening will commence.

There will be tours of the school with student leaders, a presentation by Mr Hudson, The Principal, and Mrs Burrows, Progress Leader. There will be stalls and information provided in the canteen and an opportunity to order our new school uniform ready for September. Please bring with you £10 in cash as a deposit for this. As an example the price for a tie, jumper, PE top and PE trousers would be roughly £42. Following this you are invited to meet your child’s tutor and ask any questions you may still have.
